Sign in/out procedures

For the safety of all participants, an adult must sign children in and out each day. Please note that children will only be released to an authorized adult with valid Photo ID. Please be prepared to show your ID each and every time you pick up your child. Children may not be dropped off before 7:30am and must be picked up by 6:00pm. Children who arrive earlier or are not picked up by 6:30pm will be released to the Carlsbad Police Department. Children picked up after 6:00pm will also be subject to a Late Pick Up fee of $15.00 per any portion of a fifteen-minute increment.

Lunch and snacks

All children must bring a healthy lunch and one snack everyday unless otherwise noted on the camp calendar. Please do not send candy or soda. A healthy snack will be provided each afternoon. Drinking water is also available throughout the day.

Children's belongings

Your child will need to bring the following to camp everyday: a lunch, a drink, closed toe shoes, and a backpack in which to store their belongings. Please label all items clearly. Please do not allow your child to bring: candy, gum, toys, electronics, weapons, etc. Staff will confiscate these items.

Sunscreen

Campers will spend the majority of their time in the sun so please be sure to cover your child in sunscreen each morning.  Camp staff will take sunscreen breaks throughout the day at which time they will assist campers in re-applying sunscreen. Staff will only be using spray on sunscreen. If you do not wish for staff to assist your child in re-applying sunscreen, please notify the Camp Coordinator.

Activities

Camp staff has spent many hours planning activities that we hope will appeal to all of our participants. We will always encourage your child to participate in activities but if they choose not too we will make efforts to provide them with another option. Please note that activities and trips are subject to change at any time.

Field trips

Field trips are a highlight of the camp week. On field trip days, please be sure that your child gets a good breakfast and arrives to camp in comfortable shoes and their camp T-shirt. You may pack a lunch or send money for your child to purchase a lunch unless otherwise noted on the weekly calendar. Please note that staff will make efforts to help children make healthy choices if they are purchasing lunch. Please note that activities and trips are subject to change at any time.

Chaperones

We are sorry but parents are not permitted to attend any of our field trips.

Movies

Some of our programming includes viewing movies. Staff will make efforts to select G rated movies but may also select some PG movies when appropriate. Please notify staff if you have any concerns about your child viewing a PG movie.

Water activities

Many of our camp activities will involve swimming or water play. It is extremely important for parents of non-swimmers or beginner swimmers to notify staff if their child requires extra supervision around water.  For the safety of your child, please do NOT send non-swimmers or beginner swimmers on beach, pool or water park field trips.

Injuries and illness

We strive to keep our camp environment a safe one for all participants. If your child is ill, please do not send them to camp. If your child becomes ill during the camp day you will be asked to come and pick him or her up immediately. If your child is injured at camp we will let you know. If it is a serious injury, we will contact you immediately by phone. Otherwise, you will be given an Ouch Slip when you pick up your child.

Allergies and special needs

Please let our camp staff know if your child has any allergies or other special needs so we can do our best to accommodate them.

Medication

For safety reasons, all medication needs to be submitted to the Camp Coordinator who will store the medication until needed. Camp staff may only disperse medications to children when the medication is in its original container with a prescription from a physician. Please see the Camp Coordinator if your child will require assistance with medication. City of Carlsbad staff is not allowed to inject medications.

Code of conduct

All campers must sign a Code of Conduct form prior to participating in camp. These forms will be available at the sign in table on the first day of camp. All children are expected to adhere to this Code of Conduct.  If your child is having behavior issues, camp staff will make attempts to re-direct the behavior. If your child continues to misbehave you will be contacted to pick him or her up. Children who consistently display poor behavior or who threaten the physical or emotional safety of themselves, children or staff may not be permitted to attend trips, may risk suspension or expulsion from the program and will NOT be refunded for missed activities.

Small groups

Your child will be placed in a small group with children around his/her own age. Since camp is about making new friends we will do our best to accommodate buddy requests but we cannot guarantee them.

Camper rewards

Encouraging and rewarding positive behavior is an important part of the day camp program.  Campers who display positive choices and a good attitude will be rewarded with raffle tickets.  These tickets will be used to enter a raffle at the end of each week. Prizes will include stickers, temporary tattoos and small toys.

Teamwork is also an important goal of our day camp program.  Each day a small group will be recognized as Group O’ the Day for their efforts or achievements in working together, supporting each other, etc. Each member of the group will receive a reward.

Refunds

Please note that refunds are not granted unless requests are made at least three business days before the first day of the camp session. If a child misses camp due to illness we can only grant a refund if the request is written and accompanied by a physician’s note.

Prorations and partial participation

Because our camp is planned to be five days in length, we staff accordingly and therefore cannot pro-rate our fees.

Staff

We spend a great deal of time selecting an awesome staff team that we are confident will provide your child with a safe and exciting experience. Most of our staff live in Carlsbad and attended Kidz Camp as a child or have participated in our Counselor in Training program.  Nearly all of the staff are in college

now or have graduated from college. Some of our staff are still in high school but were selected because they have shown great maturity and responsibility. All staff are fingerprinted, CPR/1st Aid Certified, submit to a background test, have good references and experience and participate in 12 hours of training prior to camp. If you have any questions about our staff, please contact the Recreation Supervisor.
