New Instructors

Carlsbad Parks & Recreation Department partners with independent contract instructors through our Enrichment division.  Enrichment programs provide diversified  programming that develops new interests or fosters further development of a specific skill or training.  Our quality programs provide a variety of benefits and encourage lifelong learning.

Enrichment programs

Class sessions are offered in six or eight week formats.  Six week classes offer a one week break between sessions while eight week programs run continuously.  Programs are reviewed and evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • community interest
  • current trends
  • facility availability
  • departmental goals
  • quality
  • instructor experience
  • Submit a new Proposal

The Parks & Recreation Department accepts new class/camp proposals on an ongoing basis.  To submit a new class/camp proposal for consideration you will be required to provide the following:

  • Course Outline
  • Sample Proposal form (including fees, descriptions, age requirements)
  • List of preferred days/times/locations
  • Resume including at least three references
  • Proposal packets can be requested by contacting the Enrichment Division at 760-602-7523 or emailing requests to christy.hershey@carlsbadca.gov or click on the Proposal link to download a copy of the sample proposal form.

The Parks & Recreation Department accepts new proposals on an ongoing basis.  Proposals are reviewed in the order they are received.  Proposals are retained on file for a period of 12 months from the date it was received.

    New Instructor Requirements

Contracted instructors are required to provide a current Carlsbad business license, appropriate liability insurance, background check, and a current negative TB test result.  Contracts are valid for one calendar year.
