The Carlsbad Senior Citizens' Association was established by the Rotary Club in 1974. In 1985, the City of Carlsbad in a cooperative effort with the Carlsbad Senior Citizens' Association, began providing direct services to Carlsbad's older residents. In 1987, the City became the lead agency offering services to Seniors in the Carlsbad area. For many years, the Harding Community Center served as the nucleus of Senior programs; until December 1989, when the Carlsbad Senior Center was dedicated. The Carlsbad Senior Center is located at the site of Carlsbad's first permanent school. It served as the educational facility for many Carlsbad residents, including some of the original families.
The Carlsbad Senior Center was made possible through a cooperative agreement between the City of Carlsbad and the Carlsbad Unified School District. The School District provided the 3.1 acres of land and the City financed and managed the construction.
The Carlsbad Senior Center offers a variety of rooms and amenities to fulfill the needs of Carlsbad's senior population, while also serving the entire community.
