California Senior Games Pickleball Tournament, June 1-4

Tournament registration forms are available online at www.usapa.org.  The cost is $35 per person, plus $5 per Senior Games event.  Registration for open men’s and women’s doubles is $20.  Deadline to register is 5 p.m., May 25.

City of Carlsbad Parks & Recreation will host the California Senior Games Pickleball Tournament from June 1 through 4 at Poinsettia Community Park.  The tournament is organized by North County Picklers, and sanctioned by the USA Pickleball Association.  Senior Games play will include more than 200 players from across the region competing in singles, doubles and mixed doubles in men’s and women’s divisions for adults ages 50 and older.  The tournament will also include play in open men’s and women’s doubles for adults ages 19 and older.

Pat Carroll, USA Pickleball Association ambassador says, “Pickleball is great exercise for the whole family, without being physically demanding.  Although it has a silly name, it is a brilliantly designed game which offers lots of fun, but can also be very quick and competitive.  Bringing this tournament to Carlsbad will raise awareness for this fast-growing sport, and see even more people out on the courts having a great time.”

“Parks & Recreation is committed to promoting healthy activities for all ages,” says Recreation Services Manager Sue Spickard.  “We are pleased to work with the North County Picklers to bring the Senior Games to Carlsbad, and look forward to a fun tournament.”

    About Pickleball

One of the fastest-growing sports in America, Pickleball is a 50-year old racquet sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis.  It is played on a court with the same dimensions as a badminton court, but is often played on tennis courts by lowering the net two inches.  The game is played with a hard paddle and a wiffle ball.  IT is fast-paced with simple rules that move the game along at a speedy clip.  It is easy to learn, therefore almost everyone can have fun the first time they play.

For more information, visit the USA Pickleball Association website, www.usapa.org.
