The Villagio trail and the Arroyo Vista trails segments are located at the southern border of Carlsbad along the Encinitas Creek tributary. The natural vegetation adjacent to the drainages of the Encintas Creek are considered to function for the maintenance of wildlife movement between Batiquitos Lagoon and more inland biological corridors. Encintas Creek is considered the best remaining wildlife movement corridor to the lagoon.
Although these soft surface trails are short in length (each is approx. ½ mile) they are important to the future of the Citywide Trail system expansion. The Arroyo Vista trail will expand eastward thru an open space corridor to Calle Acervo and the Villagio Trail will connect to a future soft surface trail with the City of Encinitas to the west.
