John Green
John is being recognized for his many hours of service and his willingness to expand the scope of his duties as needed, including Mobile Command Post duty and service as a Field Training Officer. He is always available for any assignment, day or night, and provides cheerful, professional, and competent service to the citizens of Carlsbad.
John Green was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in July, 1929. He graduated from Sapulpa High School, Sapulpa, Oklahoma, in 1946, after which he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was commissioned a 2dLt in 1958 and ultimately retired as a Major in 1970. He was a Communication Officer and had tours as a Communications Intelligence and Electronic Warfare Officer.
But that was only the beginning. John earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Park College in 1968, a Master of Business Administration from Chapman College in 1979, and a PhD in Business Administration from La Jolla University in 1984. He pursued a long and successful career in business, finance, and banking from which he retired in 2002.
John married Billie Louise Brown in October, 1956. They had two children, Richard and Debbie. Sadly, John was widowed in 2003. Later that year he began as a volunteer here with the Carlsbad Police Department Senior Volunteer Patrol.
Since then he has accrued over 3,500 hours. In May, 2009, he was promoted to Patrol Leader. He is also a Field Training Officer and a member of the Command Post crew. His knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of the patrol have enabled him to be an outstanding trainer and leader.
John has a long history of other volunteer activity in North County. He volunteers for the California Highway Patrol, Oceanside office, and is the Volunteer Captain of the SVP there. He received the Kiwanis Tablet of Honor Award for 23 years of service 2009. He has been with Project Care for 10 years, providing minor home repairs for seniors, and has installed more than 240 safety bars in bathrooms.
And finally, in his spare time, John has created many beautiful works of stained glass art.
We congratulate John Green on his achievements and thank him for being a solid member of the Carlsbad Police Department Senior Volunteer Patrol.
