Redevelopment is a process created by state law to assist city and county governments in eliminating blight and blighting influences from a designated area to achieve desired development, reconstruction and rehabilitation, including but not limited to residential, commercial, industrial and retail.
Redevelopment is very often one of the most effective ways to breathe new life into deteriorated areas. Through redevelopment, a project area can receive focused attention and financial investment to hopefully reverse deteriorating trends, create jobs, revitalize the business climate, rehabilitate and add to the housing stock, and gain active participation and investment by residents that would not otherwise occur.
The City of Carlsbad has two redevelopment areas, the Village Area and the South Coastal Area. Recently the city had a celebration to evaluate the Village Redevelopment area.
