Sewer
The City of Carlsbad provides sewer (wastewater) collection services through 252 miles of collection pipelines, 40 miles of sewer laterals, and 16 pump stations. Carlsbad's wastewater is delivered to the Encina Wastewater Authority, where it is treated and either released into the ocean or treated further and used as recycled water. Collection services for residents and businesses in the southern portion of the city are provided by either the Leucadia Wastewater District or Vallecitos Water District. To determine if a property is located within these districts, please view the sewer district map.
The city’s collection responsibility begins after the sewage leaves the sewer pipe located on private property. The pipe on private property is a called a sewer lateral, and it is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain, repair and replace.
Proper disposal of fats, oils and grease
Help maintain sewer laterals and the city’s collection pipelines. Incorrect disposal of fats, oils, grease and disposable wipes can clog sewer lines. Discarding these materials in the trash, and not in sinks and toilets, helps keep Carlsbad clean.
Billing
Most of the city's utilities services are billed together and include water, sewer (wastewater), trash and recycling as needed for residents. For utility service sign-ups, disconnects, installations and/or payment arrangements, contact the utility billing department at
