2019 Summer Reading Volunteer Program (SRVP)

Teens entering grades 7-12 in the fall who enjoy working with children, possess good communication skills and are comfortable using a computer are encouraged to apply to become a summer reading volunteer. The application period begins on May 1 of each year. There are currently volunteer opportunities available at the Georgina Cole Library and Library Learning Center. All vacancies have been filled at the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane.

In order to provide teen volunteers with the best possible experience, combined with the available level of staff oversight, a maximum number of teen volunteers who can work at each library location has been established. If the library where you wish to volunteer is at capacity, we encourage you to apply to be a volunteer at one of the other library locations.

The application period begins May 1 at 9:30 a.m. and ends May 27 at the end of the day or until vacancies have been filled, whichever comes first.

For returning summer reading volunteers or those who already have a Better Impact or MyImpactPage.com account:

  1. Beginning May 1 at 9:30 a.m., complete the online SRVP application. Under the I already have a username section, enter your username and password, then click the "Login and Continue" button. Do not click the "volunteer login" link underneath or you will bypass the application. Complete the required fields and click the "Submit Application" button.
Note: click the "Forgot your username or password?" link if you have forgotten your username and/or password. Please do not create a new account as you will not be able to view your volunteer hours from previous years.
  2. Log into your account and click the green "Opportunities" tab at the top of the page. Sign up for the "Summer Reading Volunteer Program Reservation" activity for the library location where you wish to volunteer. If the activity is full, then the location has received the maximum number of volunteers it can accommodate this year. You will need to change your qualifications to another library location and select the corresponding activity to see if there are openings available at the new location. You cannot be accepted into the program if you do not complete this step.

For new volunteers who do not have a Better Impact or MyImpactPage.com account:

  1. Beginning May 1 at 9:30 a.m., complete the online SRVP application. Under the I am new to MyImpactPage.com section, create a username and password. Complete the required fields and click the "Submit Application" button.
