Hazardous Waste is any product labeled caution, warning, danger, poison, toxic, flammable or corrosive. This includes items such as household cleaners, paint, batteries, pool chemicals and automobile fluids.
Limits per drop-off or pick-up are 15 gallons or 125 pounds, and drop-offs require residents to bring proof of residency (Driver’s License, etc.) HHW sites and pick-up services do not accept explosives, or radioactive, biomedical or business wastes.
Household hazardous waste disposal service is provided by Waste Management and Clean Harbors Environmental Services.
The city offers residents free disposal at two facilities 1) with Waste Management at the Oceanside facility and 2) with Clean Harbors Environmental Services at the Vista facility. Proof of residency is required.

Once a year, the City of Carlsbad holds a special HHW collection event. Residents need to schedule an appointment to participate. The event is held on the third Saturday of April from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Information on the annual HHW event will be posted the later part of March on this web site.
