Trash Services

The City of Carlsbad provides services for regular trash, also known as solid waste, through an exclusive contract with Waste Management.

Current information on new services and rates. 

New service

The City of Carlsbad contracts with Waste Management for residential trash service and recycling.  Utility billing is determined by the property location in the city.  To find out which district the property resides in consult the water district map.

Within the Carlsbad Municipal Water District call 760-602-2420 to set up service.

Outside the Carlsbad Municipal Water District contact Waste Management at 760-929-9400.

Residential service information

  • Residential customers provide their own receptacles for trash and yard waste.
  • Receptacles must not exceed 32 gallon (with a 40-pound weight) limit for each can.
  • Ten trash container limit per customer.
  • Trash, recyclables and yard waste are picked up on the same day.
  • Receptacles should be placed out by 7 a.m.

Billing questions

Within the Carlsbad Municipal Water District, contact the Utility Billing Department for rates and billing information.

Outside the Carlsbad Municipal Water District, contact Waste Management at 760-929-9400.

Self haul

Palomar Transfer Station, located at 5960 El Camino Real in Carlsbad, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  For more information please call 760-603-0153.

New service

The City of Carlsbad contracts with Waste Management for business and multi-family trash service and recycling hauling.  Contact must be made directly to Waste Management, at 1-800-DUMPSTER or 760-929-9400, for ordering and pricing.

Types of available service:
  • 96-gallon carts
  • 2 cubic yard to 6 cubic yard bins
  • Commercial cans
  • Locked bins
  • Push-out service
  • Service may be utilized up to six days per week. 
  • Larger bins may be available upon request.

When a collection day falls on or after one of the holidays listed below, the collection day will be one day later than normal, Monday through Saturday. If a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, there will be NO delays.
