The City of Carlsbad supports Environmental Guiding Principles such as waste reduction and recycling.  The city supports programs that manage the overall waste stream of the city and that maximize the amount of waste that is recycled by its residents, citizens and businesses. 

Across the country, many communities, businesses and individuals have found creative ways to reduce and better manage municipal solid waste - more commonly known as trash or garbage. Trash should be kept separate from recyclable items and household hazardous waste items.

The City of Carlsbad offers residents and businesses curbside trash disposal services.

• Services: The City of Carlsbad is committed to ensuring quality service for regular trash service for all residents and businesses.  Residential, business and multi family service is provided by Waste Management as the exclusive city contractor. 
• Bulky items: Carlsbad residents may dispose of two large bulky items that are too large to fit into the trash can, such as furniture (couch, chair, dresser, cabinet, bookshelf, and mattress) or appliances (toilet, washer, stove, sink) up to five predetermined times per year.
