Storm Water Protection
Storm drains were developed to prevent flooding, but are not connected to sanitary sewer systems and treatment plants. Storm drains will carry pollutants and chemicals directly to our creeks, lagoons and ocean.
Best Management Practices are procedures and practices you can implement to prevent pollutants and other hazardous materials from entering our storm drains.
The Construction Handbook provides general guidance for selecting and implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) that will eliminate or reduce the discharge of pollutants from construction sites to waters of the state and developing and implementing stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs) that document the selection and implementation of BMPs for a particular construction project. This handbook has been adopted by the City to serve as the accepted standard for type and installation of best management practices for storm water pollution prevention.
