LA COSTA VALLEY TRAIL

The length of the loop trail around the open space is approximately 1.3 miles. The trail to the east of Paseo Avellano leads to Rancho Santa Fe Road and ultimately the Arroyo Vista Trail. The trail west of Paseo Aliso and El Camino Real connects with the La Costa Glen trail which runs north to the Batiquitos Lagoon and south to the City of Encinitas. A portion of the trail is paved and wheelchair accessible. (See: Lower Photo)

Vegetation in the open space includes riparian scrub and freshwater marsh. Trees commonly found in this wetland community are Willow and Cottonwood. A seasonal creek within the drainage area of the open space corridor supports nesting habitat and protective cover from predators. This watershed connects to the Batiquitos Lagoon to the north and west, which supports unique avian and aquatic species specific to California Coastal Lagoons.

Directions

I- 5 to La Costa Ave exit
La Costa Avenue east to El Camino Real
Right on El Camino Real, travel south to Calle Barcelona
Left on Calle Barcelona, to 4 way stop.
Left on Paseo Aliso, parking is available along Paseo Aliso or at El Camino Creek Elementary School
