Trail volunteer event

Post Date:02/18/2025 10:00 AM

On Saturday, Feb. 22, the city is hosting a trail volunteer event at Robertson Ranch East Trail. Trail volunteers work alongside city staff to help keep the city's trails in top shape – a fun way to get outdoors and give back to the community. If you’re interested in giving it a try, here’s what you need to know.

Trail volunteer event
Saturday, Feb. 22
8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Robertson Ranch East Trail
3459 Alander Court
Park along Four Peaks Street, Alander Court or Glen Avenue

  • Meet at the trailhead to check in and get instructions.
  • The city provides all the tools you need, plus training.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and long pants to protect against bugs and branches.
  • Bring water, sunscreen and gloves. (If you don’t have gloves, we can provide them.)

Volunteers will help with a wide range of tasks, including:

  • Smoothing out any uneven spots along the trail
  • Fixing any damage caused by our recent rain
  • Removing any debris or fallen branches
  • Digging small channels to keep water draining properly

RSVP for the event by emailing our trail volunteer coordinator Ben Goldstein at Ben.Goldstein@carlsbadca.gov.

New volunteer sign-up process
The city has introduced a new registration system to streamline the volunteer process. This system is especially helpful for those who plan to participate in trail volunteer events more regularly. Here's how it works:

  • Create an account with the volunteer database, Better Impact, and apply for the city’s trail volunteer program.
  • Once you have applied, email Ben at the address above. Ben will send you an orientation packet, a link to a short training video and a QR code for an online waiver form.
  • Fill out the form and hit submit. The waiver will stay in our system, so you don’t have to complete a new one every time you attend a trail volunteer event.
  • Email Ben once those tasks are complete. You’ll then be an official part of our trail volunteer program.

Those who don't wish to register through Better Impact but would like to participate may complete a waiver form on-site the day of the event.
