Around 2 a.m., the Carlsbad Police Department received a call from a family member reporting that a relative was experiencing a mental health crisis and may have had access to a weapon. Officers responded to the individual's residence to conduct a welfare check, in the area of Rancho Santa Fe Rd and La Costa Ave.
As a precaution to ensure the safety of nearby residents, we issued a shelter-in-place alert to the immediate area through the Genasys Protect App.
The alert has since been lifted, and there is no active threat to the community. We are also working to resolve the technical issues that delayed updates through the Genasys alert system.
