Arrest in large-scale retail theft case

Carlsbad Police investigation leads to arrest in large-scale retail theft case
Post Date:10/07/2025

In May 2025, the Carlsbad Police Department initiated an investigation into a series of retail thefts targeting the Under Armour store located in the City of Carlsbad.

Detectives worked closely with Under Armour’s loss prevention team to review surveillance footage and analyze evidence connected to multiple theft incidents. Through this coordinated effort, detectives identified the suspect as Yvonne Tran, 65, of San Diego.

Further investigation revealed Tran’s involvement in more than 40 separate thefts from the same Under Armour location, resulting in significant financial losses for the retailer. Working in partnership with Under Armour’s corporate investigators, Carlsbad detectives built a comprehensive case linking Tran to the ongoing thefts.

On October 1, 2025, Carlsbad Police Detectives arrested Tran in San Diego and served a search warrant at her residence. During the search, detectives recovered a substantial quantity of stolen Under Armour merchandise with an estimated retail value of approximately $100,000.

Tran was booked on 10 felony counts of grand theft. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to identify additional victims and determine whether Tran may be connected to other similar thefts throughout the region.
