Police respond to reported threat at La Costa Meadows Elementary School

Post Date:12/11/2025 4:05 PM

On Thursday, Dec. 11, at approximately 10:48 a.m., the Carlsbad Police Department and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office responded to La Costa Meadows Elementary School, a San Marcos Unified School District campus located in the 6800 block of El Fuerte Street, after school staff reported finding a concerning note that suggested a potential threat to the campus.

Out of an abundance of caution, school administrators immediately placed the school on a shelter-in-place status while officers and deputies conducted a comprehensive safety sweep of all buildings and campus areas.

After completing the sweep, no threat was identified, and the shelter-in-place was lifted a short time later. All students and staff remained safe throughout the incident.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office will be the lead agency for the ongoing investigation into the origin and nature of the note.

The Carlsbad Police Department, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, and our local school districts take every threat seriously. Nothing is dismissed or ignored when it comes to the safety of students, staff and our community.
