The multipurpose field at Poinsettia Community Park has reopened following a project to replace the synthetic turf. The city completed the work in about two months, and sports groups returned to the field the first weekend it reopened.
The City Council approved the project to maintain a safe and high-quality playing field. The previous surface had reached the end of its useful life, and the replacement allows the field to continue supporting practices, games and community use.
New turf system
The updated synthetic turf system is designed to address health and environmental concerns associated with some turf materials while improving performance and durability. The new system:
- Is made without added PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), a type of “forever chemical” used in some manufacturing processes
- Does not use crumb rubber as infill between the turf blades
- Uses a mineral base designed to help the surface stay cooler than traditional sand-based systems
- Includes a 12-year warranty for the turf and a 25-year warranty for the underlying pad
- Features a recycling program to keep the old turf and infill out of landfills
Projects like this help the city keep fields open and playable, even with high demand across parks.
