This morning, April 23, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m., staff at Sage Creek High School discovered a water bottle containing materials that caused a small reaction. Staff immediately secured the item and contacted the Carlsbad Police Department and Carlsbad Fire Department.

Out of an abundance of caution, the campus was placed on Secure Campus while first responders conducted a thorough sweep. Fire personnel determined there were no additional hazards and there is no ongoing threat to students or staff.

School officials shared that this incident appears to be related to a social media trend involving unsafe homemade devices.

The school will continue to keep families informed as updates become available.
