At its April 28 meeting, the Carlsbad City Council approved allocating federal funding to local organizations that provide programs to prevent and reduce homelessness, preserve affordable housing and deliver fair housing services in Carlsbad.

By leveraging federal resources, the city is advancing its goals to support affordable housing and invest in programs aligned with Carlsbad's Homelessness Action Plan, while minimizing the impact on the city’s General Fund budget.

Grants for the 2026-27 fiscal year were awarded to:

  • Interfaith Community Services: $55,178 to prevent and reduce homelessness by providing rental and utility assistance
  • Legal Aid Society: $30,110 to support its fair housing program, which provides legal services, education, counseling and other services related to the federal Fair Housing Act and related state laws
  • Community Resource Center: $25,120 to prevent and reduce homelessness by providing rental and utility assistance

The balance of more than $500,000 in federal grant funding will go toward making more affordable housing available for lower income families in Carlsbad.
