This work aligns with the Carlsbad Community Vision and the City Council’s 5-Year Strategic Plan, which includes a focus on maintaining the unique character of Carlsbad’s neighborhoods while honoring the city’s heritage.

The city’s historic preservation program is cooperatively managed by the Library & Cultural Arts Department and the Community Development Department. Each department oversees different aspects of the historic preservation program and staff in both departments work closely together.
