The city is served by two history-based organizations, working to keep our historic resources and aid in preserving their character.

  • Carlsbad Historical Society. The Carlsbad Historical Society increases and enhances the knowledge of the area’s history. The Carlsbad Historical Society was established in 1975 and has a museum and archives at the Shipley-Magee House, at 258 Beech Ave., Carlsbad. The museum portion is furnished in a turn-of-the-century style, which reflects the lifestyle of the early settlers of Carlsbad who once owned the house.

  • Friends of Carrillo Ranch. In 1990, Carlsbad resident Alan Kindle established a non-profit educational corporation called the Friends of Carrillo Ranch, Inc. Its mission was designed to help the city plan and develop Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. Today, the Friends of Carrillo Ranch members continue to further the restoration and preservation efforts of the Ranch buildings, grounds and educational projects.
