The City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts Division serves to encourage, develop and facilitate an enriched environment of artistic, creative and cultural activity in Carlsbad and the North San Diego County region. As a component of many services and activities, the city manages funding programs to provide financial support to organizations, schools and individuals for various projects through a competitive application and review process.

Community Arts Grant 2026-27

On Thursday, June 4 the Arts Commission approved the recommended funding plan for the FY 2026-27 Community Arts Grant. Congratulations to the FY 2026-27 Community Arts Grant Recipients!

Set in 1962 Baltimore, Hairspray follows teenager Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and even bigger dreams of dancing on The Corny Collins Show, a popular local TV program. Despite facing body shaming and social barriers, Tracy wins a spot on the show and uses her newfound fame to speak out against racial segregation. With the help of her quirky friends, her loving parents Edna and Wilbur and the charismatic Motormouth Maybelle, Tracy becomes an unlikely hero—proving that one person can make a difference. Filled with catchy songs, high-energy dancing and a heartwarming message of inclusion, Hairspray is a joyful celebration of love, acceptance and standing up for what’s right.
