The City of Carlsbad operates on a July to June fiscal year. The city budget has three main sections, the Operating Budget, which covers the day to day work of the city, like providing police and fire services, libraries, parks and recreation, and other core services; the plan for investing in digital infrastructure; and the Capital Improvement Program, which covers major construction projects. 

Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget

The fiscal year 2025-26 budget was adopted by the City Council at its June 17, 2025, meeting. It covers the time period of July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.

Community budget workshop

City staff hosted a workshop May 22, 2025, for residents to learn about the preliminary fiscal year 2025-26 city budget and ask questions. Detailed notes on the questions and comments received at the workshop were included with the agenda packet for the City Council's consideration.

The public is encouraged to share their priorities with the City Council throughout the year. The next community budget workshop for the fiscal year 2026-27 city budget is scheduled for May 21, 2026. Learn more about ways that you can share ideas.
