On June 26, 2025, Carlsbad Police Department detectives arrested 36-year-old Roger Hoover, a resident of Oceanside, following a months-long investigation into a series of burglaries, mail thefts, and identity theft incidents that occurred in the city of Carlsbad.

Around 2 a.m., the Carlsbad Police Department received a call from a family member reporting that a relative was experiencing a mental health crisis and may have had access to a weapon. As a precaution to ensure the safety of nearby residents, a shelter-in-place alert was issued.
