What to expect

While each project is different, in general here’s what to expect during construction: 

• Work will take place Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
• Night work will be required at a few intersections for water and sewer improvements. Nearby residents and businesses will be notified in advance when night work is planned.
• Some vehicle lanes and bike lanes may need to be closed intermittently. Traffic delays are possible so please give yourself extra time to get where you need to go and share the road.
• Sidewalks near active construction areas may be temporarily closed. Pedestrian detours will be clearly marked.
• Temporary parking restrictions will be in place near active construction areas.
• Temporary water interruptions may be required when pipelines are replaced. We will notify any impacted residents and businesses in advance.
• Construction like this can cause noise and dust.
• Access for residents and businesses will be maintained at all times.

Work will occur in phases, which means you may notice crews returning to the same location multiple times before construction is complete. 

Street improvements are planned at 14 intersections to help reduce speeds and enhance safety. This includes recently installed all-way stop signs and enhanced crosswalks at four intersections in the Barrio.

More than 100 new pedestrian lights will be installed throughout the Barrio to improve nighttime visibility along sidewalks.

• The lights are smaller and shorter than existing streetlights.
• Lights will have a warmer color and lower brightness than streetlights in the Village and existing lights in the Barrio.
• Locations were informed by community input, technical analysis and available power connections.
• Construction to install new lights began in January 2026 and this work should be complete in the fall.

Before street improvements are completed, aging water and sewer pipelines will be replaced below several intersections to improve reliability and meet current design standards. 

Work is planned at the following intersections:

• Harding Street and Pine Avenue
• Oak Avenue and Jefferson Street
• Oak Avenue and Harding Street
• Harding Street and Palm Avenue
• Chestnut Avenue and Roosevelt Street
• Chestnut Avenue and Madison Street
• Madison Street and Pine Avenue

Temporary water service interruptions may be needed during this work. We will notify affected residents and businesses in advance when service interruptions are required.
