The City of Carlsbad is working to improve sewer capacity and reliability for areas along Poinsettia Lane and El Fuerte Street.

At a glance

Construction started in June 2026 and is expected to be complete in spring 2027.
Crews will replace approximately a half mile of sewer pipeline beneath Poinsettia Lane and rehabilitate 35 sewer maintenance holes along Poinsettia Lane and El Fuerte Street.

What to expect during construction

Work Hours

Work is expected to happen between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. Some night work will be needed. We will notify nearby residents before night work occurs.

Traffic Impacts

Westbound lanes on Poinsettia Lane will be impacted during construction. Traffic delays are possible. Give yourself extra time to get where you need to go.

Short‑term lane closures on El Fuerte Street will occur as crews work on sewer maintenance holes.

The westbound bike lane on Poinsettia will be closed to bicycle traffic during working hours.

Neighborhood Impacts

Projects like this can create noise, dust and odor. We will do all we can to minimize the impact of these on the surrounding neighborhoods.

Background

For this capital improvement project, crews will replace 2,560 feet of sewer pipeline on Poinsettia Lane with larger pipe to increase capacity and accommodate increased demands on the sewer system that may occur in the future.

Also as part of the project, 35 sewer maintenance holes also will be rehabilitated along Poinsettia Lane between Alicante Road and El Fuerte Street, on El Fuerte Street between Poinsettia Lane and Gateway Road, and in the Bressi Ranch Village Center.
