What to expect

• Some sidewalks will be temporarily closed. Pedestrian detours will be in place and clearly marked with signs.
• Temporary power outages may be needed at some locations. If power outages are needed, SDG&E will notify you in advance.
• Temporary lane closures may be needed. Please use caution and give yourself extra time to get where you need to go.
• There will be temporary parking restrictions near active construction areas. No parking signs will be placed in advance.
• This kind of construction can create noise and dust.
• Access to homes and businesses will be maintained.

Phase two of the Barrio lighting improvements project is focused on adding new pedestrian lighting in the Barrio. 

More than 100 new lights are being installed for streets throughout the Barrio to light up sidewalks for people walking after dark.

• The new lights are considered “pedestrian lights,” rather than streetlights.
• They are smaller than the existing streetlights, on shorter 17 foot poles and not as bright.
• The lights proposed for the Barrio will have a warmer color than the lights in the Village and the Barrio's existing streetlights.

The city gathered input from the community in early 2022 to help guide the placement of new pedestrian lights in the Barrio. Community feedback, technical analysis and availability of power connections helped determine the proposed placement of the lights.
