Carlsbad, CA
Home MenuTerramar Area Coastal Improvement Project
At a glance
- The city is developing a project to address long-standing traffic and safety concerns in the Terramar neighborhood, along Carlsbad Boulevard and Cannon Road.
- A project that was previously planned for the area included a roundabout at Carlsbad Boulevard and Cannon Road, lane reductions on Cannon Road west of the railroad tracks and a traffic signal at Cerezo Drive.
- Following recent community feedback regarding roundabouts, the City Council re-evaluated the project scope and in October 2025, approved a smaller-scale project.
- Improvements now being considered include new sidewalks on one or both sides of the street, and resurfacing and restriping Carlsbad Boulevard and Cannon Road in this area.
- The project is expected to return to the City Council in May.
Parking impacts
If new sidewalks are installed, some of the parking currently available off the shoulder of Carlsbad Boulevard would need to be removed. On the west side of the street, new parking spots could be added near the southern end of the new sidewalk to help offset parking loss further north. Here is how parking in the area could be impacted if sidewalks are installed:
- Westside sidewalk only: Reduced by 23 spots
- Eastside sidewalk only: Reduced by 11 spots
- Sidewalks on both sides: Reduced by 34 spots
