October is Arts and Humanities Month

The City of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts fall season is designed to coincide with October as National Arts & Humanities Month, the largest annual celebration for arts and humanities in the nation. As a coast-to-coast collective recognition of the importance of culture in America, National Arts & Humanities Month was launched by Americans for the Arts and national arts partners with the goals of:

  • FOCUSING on the arts at local, state and national levels
  • ENCOURAGING individuals and organizations to participate in the arts
  • ALLOWING governments and businesses to show their support of the arts
  • RAISING public awareness about the role the arts and humanities play in our communities and lives

With the acceptance of the Arts & Culture Master Plan last year, the City of Carlsbad has affirmed its support for the arts as an integral part of daily life and a key component to enhancing the quality of life for all residents. This 10 year plan supports a new vision and is embodied in specific initiatives and programs including a guest artist residency that brings Ken Waldman, Alaska’s fiddler poet, to Carlsbad for a week this October.

“Most importantly, this arts programming is designed to celebrate local talent and showcase a notable array of gifted performers, musicians and artists from the region and across the nation,” commented Richard L. Schultz, MFA, cultural arts manager.
