The City of Carlsbad Police Department is partnering with the California of Office Safety to remind everyone who plans to drink to also plan for a sober ride home. This holiday season, and every day, the safest way to drive is sober.
To ensure safety for all traveling to holiday parties and other seasonal destinations, the Police Department is working with OTS and asking for the community’s participation in a safe and sober holiday travel plan.
During the holidays, patrol officers will be looking for drivers who are suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The enforcement efforts are part of a national enforcement campaign to discourage impaired driving.
The Police Department will also participate in special details during the holiday season to prevent and deter drivers from driving under the influence. The first one will occur on December 15 when Officers will be conducting a special saturation enforcement event.
“The holidays are a fun and festive time of the year to gather with friends and family,” stated Police Chief Neil Gallucci. “Being responsible, understanding the dangers of driving under the influence and creating a plan for sober rides home is everyones’ responsibility.”
OTS goes on to mention, alcohol is not the only thing that affects your driving ability. Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and marijuana can also impair, especially in combination with alcohol and other drugs.
So, if you plan on drinking or taking drugs that can impair, play it safe and have a designated sober driver.
Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
