🐍 The warmer spring weather means rattlesnakes and other wildlife are more active earlier. Most bites happen between April and October, so it’s a good time to stay alert outdoors. Here are a few quick safety tips: • Stay aware of your surroundings and avoid tall grass or brush • Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes outside • Keep dogs leashed and close to you • Keep yards tidy and clear areas where snakes may hide If you see a rattlesnake, keep your distance and slowly back away. For emergencies or bites, call 9-1-1. For non-emergency situations where a rattlesnake poses an immediate risk, contact the San Diego Humane Society Humane Law Enforcement team at 619-299-7012 (press 1 for Dispatch). Grant to address homelessness
Last week, the state announced the latest recipients of grant funding to address homeless encampments. The cities of Carlsbad and Oceanside applied jointly and were awarded $11.4 million to address encampments along State Route 78.
