Cabinet of Curiosities: Deborah Davidson and Christopher Polentz

November 6, 2016 – January 8, 2017

Cabinets of Curiosities arose in mid-sixteenth century Europe as repositories for all manner of wondrous and exotic objects. This exhibition presents the work of two artists who have felt the pull of the unusual and extraordinary. With subjects ranging from portraits and memorabilia to oddities taken from and inspired by the natural and imaginary world, the featured works by Southern California artists Deborah Davidson and Christopher Polentz include paintings, assemblage and installation.

House & Home

Exhibition dates: September 4 - October 23, 2016

Throughout American history, Americans have built all sorts of structures to call home. This traveling exhibition, which began a six-year national tour in 2014, was adapted from the original exhibition at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C., and explores the artistic, social and cultural history of the American house. It is being toured by Mid-America Arts Alliance and has been made possible by NEH on road, a special initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Poetic: Artists in a Visionary Mode

June 25-Aug. 21, 2016

“Having an imaginative or sensitively emotional style of expression” is one of definitions of poetic, which describes the exquisitely detailed landscapes and objects in Eugenie Geb’s drawings, the constructed cityscapes and rooms in Han Nguyen’s elegant photographs and the lushly colored figures and flowers in DeLoss McGraw’s symbolic watercolors about San Diego. All three of these critically renowned artists are featured in this exhibition, assembled by the nationally known and locally based art critic, art historian and author Robert L. Pincus, PhD.
