Arts Commission


The commission consists of seven members appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Members must be residents of Carlsbad and normally serve four-year terms.

Meeting Times & Locations

Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. at the City Council Chamber located at 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive.

Advises the City Council on the implementation of the arts element of the Carlsbad General Plan. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing and approving community arts grants funding to arts organizations, schools and artists who provide an artistic and educational experience for the citizens 
  • Serving in an advisory capacity for continued development and presentation of an array of visual and performing arts experiences in the city
  • Providing a forum for arts concerns and recommendations to the elected officials and their staff concerning arts issues
  • Reviewing and making recommendations upon permanent public art to be acquired by the city, either by commission, purchase, gift or otherwise, and their proposed locations
