Community Partnerships

Community partnerships are an important tool used to provide quality recreational opportunities to benefit residents and visitors. Here’s a look at a few of our partnerships.

California Department of Parks and Recreation

The city entered into an agreement with California Department of Parks and Recreation for beach improvements along the coast. This effort includes measures to protect and conserve the eroded coastal bluff. To date, over $1 million has been invested to improve this area, including:

  • Upgrades to landscaping and irrigation systems
  • Refurbished picnic tables, benches and planters
  • Improvements to restroom and pump house
  • Removal of non-native plants
  • Installation of more than 5,000 drought tolerant native plants
  • Addition of interpretive panels to educate community on the importance conservation in the area
  • Improvements to Ocean Street parking lot

Friends of Carrillo Ranch, Inc.

The Friends of Carrillo Ranch, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit educational corporation, was founded by a Carlsbad resident in 1990 to help the city plan and develop Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park, a designated Historic National Landmark. The partnership between the city and the Friends has resulted in:

  • A public park with walking tours, special events and a unique connection to the citywide trails system via the 4-milelong Rancho Carrillo trail.
  • The California History & Art Program, created for fourth students to learn California history through hands-on art projects.
  • The Carrillo Ranch Trust Fund to allow gifts to be accepted for purposes related to the development, operation and maintenance of the park.

Senior Services

The Carlsbad Senior Center provides a continuum of services for adults over 50. Support for the Senior Center comes from a strong network of volunteers and private organizations such as:
