Thank you for doing your part to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community. We hope these fun virtual events and activities will make this time just a little easier for you and your family!  We will be adding more in the coming weeks, so please check back often.

Family Pirate Night

Saturday, March 13
5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Live on Zoom
$25 per family based on 4 people; supplies are included and must be picked up

Gather the family in pirate attire and get ready for a 1 1/2 hour virtual Pirate Night packed with dance competitions, high-energy games, a treasure hunt and a special story time. It’s a competition to collect the most treasure throughout the night. Mimicking a game-show setting, DJ Paul hosts different families competing against each other throughout the event via ZOOM.

Detailed instructions and zoom code will be emailed once you register.

Backyard Winter Olympics

Join in the 2021 Backyard Winter Olympics. Go for the gold with these DIY videos and create a winter Olympic stadium in your own backyard using common household items. Follow a step-by-step instructional video to craft the obstacles and equipment for this decathlon challenge. Compete against your family members in ten activities, keep score and award medals to the champions in Gold, Silver and Bronze.

  • DIY Video with a supplies list and instructions on how to create of each obstacle (supplies not included)
  • See how it is done. Watch a video of a group of children in the decathlon event winter themed obstacles including abominable foot races, avalanche, avoid the icicles, snowball toss, penguin race, build a snowman, snowflake POP!, antler ring toss, igloo aim, snow bowling and snowflake race.
  • Printable score sheet, podium numbers and medals for 10 mini events


Festival of Lanterns: A Night of Light & Reflection

Community members gave thanks and shared messages of hope and love during our inaugural floating virtual Festival of Lanterns event, A Night of Light and Reflection, at Alga Norte Aquatic Center on Nov. 14.  Lanterns were decorated with thoughtful messages and floated in our pool. The event also featured singers, musicians and readings. Thank you to all who participated.


Virtual family backyard camp out

Set up a tent in your living room or backyard for a community family backyard campout. We'll provide the campfire recipes and entertainment! Dig into s’more ways to make s’mores, try out some easy, mess-free campfire dinner recipes and create a cool craft with the kiddos! Once you’re settled in, top off the night with an exciting video all about the nighttime critters of Carlsbad and a virtual hike around Lake Calavera Preserve. Download a shopping list for your campfire dinner, s'mores and craft so you can be all prepared for this fun night in. 

Hot Rods & Cool Treats virtual event

What do vintage cars and homemade ice cream have in common? They are both part of our virtual Hot Rods & Cool Treats event! While we can’t hold our annual event in the park as planned we have developed some great videos to keep to event going virtually. Create your own classic car collection following the instructions in the Paper Vintage Car Craft video, make your very own homemade ice cream using just three ingredients and enjoy a video montage of cool classic cars from our 2019 event. Also listen to entertainment from past decades with virtual performances of Gin N Tonix, Star Glee Club, and StarKids! It’s a virtual event for the entire family!
