As part of its Capital Improvement Program, the City of Carlsbad is working to enhance overall safety and mobility along an important portion of Palomar Airport Road. The Palomar Airport Road Widening Project includes upgrades to the Palomar Airport Road and Paseo Del Norte intersection. The project will improve traffic flow from Interstate 5 onto Palomar Airport Road by extending the eastbound left turn lane and adding a designated right turn lane. Additionally, restriping portions of the north-and southbound lanes on Paseo Del Norte will provide better traffic flow onto westbound Palomar Airport Road. The project also provides a new eastbound bike lane.
Palomar Airport Road is a vital roadway within the City’s comprehensive mobility system. This critical infrastructure project has been prioritized to help improve mobility in the area in the long-term interest of the region. The City of Carlsbad is working to complete the project as soon as possible to minimize disruptions.
